Now that we have a new cornerstone game released by Stern Pinball, it’s time for another zoomed-out look at the performance of Stern, as viewed through our Units in Market metric, which tracks the volume of games that have made their way from the factory to enthusiast collections or on location. Stern is always interesting to look at, specifically because of their dominant position in the market. It means we get a lot more data to chew on, and it’s a little easier to draw some interesting takeaways.
In this article, we’re going to look at games released from 2022 to today, or what I’m calling the “Post-Godzilla” period. Godzilla was such a runaway success for Stern, and the market conditions that enabled that performance may never be replicated in the future, so I think it’s becoming more interesting to look at Units in Market post-Godzilla, as I think it’s a more realistic comparison for where the market is today and where it’s likely to remain for the foreseeable future.
